Gathering Of Native Americans Community Event – Anchorage, Alaska

The GONA (Gathering of Native Americans) is a 3-day curriculum whose focus can be a whole community, or specific age or gender groups. The GONA was founded in 1992 by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and a team of Native Americans across the nation. The central theme for the GONA is community healing from historical and intergenerational trauma that addresses self, family, and community. The GONA addresses risk factors leading to substance abuse and destructive behaviors and uses Alaska Native culture as a resource to reclaim healthy behaviors.
